Storing A Piece Of Skull Under The Skin For Later Use

Maine rates for HCPCS 61316

Covers making a pocket under the skin, usually in the abdomen, and placing there the piece of skull bone removed during a brain operation so it stays alive and sterile until it can be put back. Keeping the patient's own bone avoids having to fit an artificial plate later on. It is billed in addition to the main brain operation.
