Removing a Blood Clot at the Back of the Head

Oregon rates for HCPCS 61314

The skull is opened to clear a pooled collection of blood pressing on the brain, lying either between the skull and the brain's tough outer covering or just beneath that covering. This version treats a clot in the lower back part of the head, the compartment holding the cerebellum and the brainstem. There is very little spare room there, so pressure builds quickly and the clot has to be removed without delay.
