Opens the skull over the upper part of the brain to remove a blood clot that has formed within the brain tissue itself. Taking the clot out relieves pressure and limits damage to the brain around it. It is done urgently after a bleed into the brain, whether caused by high blood pressure, an injury, or an abnormal blood vessel.
