Surgical removal of the uterus performed immediately during or right after a cesarean delivery, most often because of severe bleeding, an abnormally attached placenta, or another complication that makes it unsafe to leave the uterus in place. It is billed in addition to the delivery itself, since it is an additional procedure performed at the same operation. This is different from a hysterectomy done as a separate, planned procedure at another time.
