Uses ultrasound guidance to pass a fine needle through the mother's abdomen and into the unborn baby, to drain a build-up of fluid from the chest, abdomen, or bladder. Releasing the pressure can allow the lungs or other organs to develop and can improve the baby's condition before delivery. The ultrasound guidance used to place the needle is part of the procedure.
