Uses a camera and fine instruments passed through small cuts in the abdomen to find patches of abnormal tissue on the ovaries, the pelvic organs or the lining of the pelvis, and destroy or cut them away. Heat, laser or cutting instruments may be used depending on where each patch sits and what lies beneath it. It is most often done for endometriosis, where tissue resembling the womb lining grows outside the womb and causes pain.
