Placement of Vaginal Device for Internal Radiation

Arkansas rates for HCPCS 57156

In this procedure a doctor places a small device inside the vagina that will later be loaded with a radioactive source to deliver radiation directly to nearby tissue, a treatment known as brachytherapy. It's commonly used as part of treatment for gynecologic cancers such as cervical or uterine cancer. The device itself does not contain radioactive material during placement; that is added afterward in a separate step.
