This procedure surgically drains a collection of blood, called a hematoma, that has formed in the vaginal wall from a cause other than childbirth, such as trauma or occurring spontaneously. It relieves pain and pressure and helps prevent the collection from growing larger or becoming infected. It is performed specifically for hematomas not related to delivery, as distinct from those that occur after childbirth.
