Gently separates labial folds that have stuck together and closed over the opening they normally leave clear. It is seen most often in young girls and can obstruct the flow of urine or trap moisture and cause irritation. Numbing cream or a local anesthetic is used, the tissue is eased apart, and an ointment is generally applied afterward so the surfaces do not stick again.
