Removes the whole prostate gland together with the seminal vesicles as treatment for prostate cancer, working through several small cuts in the lower abdomen with a camera and long instruments, often with robotic assistance. The bladder is then rejoined to the urethra so urine can pass normally. Where the cancer allows, the surgeon works carefully around the nerve bundles running alongside the prostate to preserve erectile function.
