Removes the whole prostate gland and the seminal vesicles through an incision in the lower abdomen, and takes the lymph nodes from both sides of the pelvis during the same operation. The bladder is then reconnected to the urine passage. Examining the nodes shows whether the cancer has spread beyond the prostate.
