Replacing An Artificial Urinary Sphincter

Virginia rates for HCPCS 53447

Takes out an implanted artificial urinary sphincter — the cuff around the urine channel, the fluid reservoir and the pump — and puts a complete new system in its place. It is done when the existing device has failed, leaked, eroded into tissue or become infected. The new device is normally left switched off for a period so the tissues can heal before it is activated.
