The first of two planned operations to rebuild a urethra that is narrowed, has an abnormal pocket, or has an abnormal opening to the skin. The damaged segment is opened along its length and the edges are stitched to the skin, leaving a temporary opening through which urine passes while the tissue heals and softens. The tube is closed back into a channel at a second operation months later.
