A thin telescope is passed through the urethra and bladder to reach a narrowed section of the ureter, the tube that carries urine down from the kidney. The narrowing is opened up from the inside using a balloon, a laser, an electric current or a small cut, so urine can drain freely again. No incision is made in the skin.
