Removes the bladder together with the surrounding pelvic organs involved by cancer in one major operation, and creates a new route for urine to leave the body. Depending on how far the cancer has spread, reproductive organs and a section of the lower bowel may also be removed and a stoma created. It is a large open abdominal operation for extensive cancer of the bladder, prostate, or urethra.
