Bladder Removal With A New Bladder Built From Bowel
Vermont rates for HCPCS 51596
Removes the whole bladder and builds a replacement reservoir from a segment of the patient's own intestine, so urine is stored inside the body rather than draining into an external bag. The new reservoir is joined to the tubes coming down from the kidneys and is emptied either through the natural passage or through a small opening the person drains with a catheter. It is a large open abdominal operation, usually done for bladder cancer.
