Bladder Removal With Urine Rerouted

Colorado rates for HCPCS 51580

Removes the whole bladder and redirects the ureters — the tubes carrying urine from the kidneys — so that urine leaves the body by another route, either into the bowel or through an opening on the skin of the abdomen. It is done for bladder disease severe enough that the organ cannot be saved, most often cancer. This is major surgery with a hospital stay of several days and a substantial recovery period.
