Ureter Replacement Using Bowel

Washington rates for HCPCS 50840

Surgery that replaces a damaged, scarred, or blocked ureter, the tube carrying urine from the kidney to the bladder, with a segment of the patient's own intestine. The bowel segment is joined to the kidney's drainage system at one end and to the bladder at the other, and the remaining intestine is reconnected. It restores urine drainage when the ureter cannot be repaired directly.
