Redirects the tubes carrying urine down from the kidneys into a segment of sigmoid colon that is refashioned to hold urine in place of the bladder, and creates a colostomy on the abdomen or perineum so stool leaves by its own route. The bowel is divided and rejoined during the same operation. It is done when the bladder has been removed or can no longer do its job.
