Reroutes urine by cutting one ureter — the tube carrying urine from a kidney to the bladder — and joining it across into the ureter on the opposite side, so both kidneys drain through a single path. It is used when one ureter is blocked, damaged, or has too little healthy length to reach the bladder on its own. It is open abdominal surgery under general anesthesia with a hospital stay.
