Surgery that frees the ureter, the tube carrying urine from the kidney to the bladder, from tissue or a structure pressing on it and blocking the flow of urine. Releasing the tube restores drainage and protects the kidney from back-pressure damage. The tube may be repositioned so it is no longer trapped.
