Takes the omentum, the apron of fatty tissue that hangs inside the abdomen, and moves it out of the abdomen while keeping it attached to its own blood supply, so it can cover a defect elsewhere such as a chest wall or breastbone wound. Its rich blood supply helps infected or poorly healing areas close. The abdomen is opened to free and shape the tissue.
