Repair of a Trapped Groin Hernia

Wyoming rates for HCPCS 49507

Open repair of a first-time groin hernia in a patient aged five or older where the bulging tissue has become stuck and can no longer be pushed back in. The surgeon frees the trapped contents, checks that the bowel or fat caught in the hernia is still healthy, then closes the weak spot, usually reinforcing it with mesh. Trapped hernias are dealt with urgently because a squeezed loop of bowel can lose its blood supply.
