Removal of a Foreign Body From the Abdomen

Vermont rates for HCPCS 49402

Opens the abdomen to find and remove an object lying loose inside the abdominal cavity — for example an item retained after an earlier operation, or a fragment driven in by an injury. The cavity is inspected, the object is retrieved, and any contamination is washed out. It is done to prevent or treat the infection, pain, and scarring a retained object causes.
