Pelvic Packing To Control Bleeding After Injury

Washington rates for HCPCS 49013

Controls life-threatening bleeding from a severe pelvic fracture by opening the lower abdomen just in front of the abdominal lining and packing surgical dressings tightly into the space around the broken bones. Pressure from the packs stops the bleeding while the patient is stabilized, and the area is examined at the same time to check where the blood is coming from. It is an emergency operation performed in major trauma.
