Removes the small opening in the wall of the first part of the small intestine where the bile duct and the pancreatic duct empty in, usually because a growth has formed there. The area is cut out and the two ducts are reattached to the bowel so bile and pancreatic juice can still drain. It is an alternative to removing the head of the pancreas when the growth is confined to that opening.
