This procedure uses a thin scope passed through an existing tube or tract into the bile duct system to stretch open a narrowed segment of a bile duct, without leaving a stent behind afterward. It is used when scarring or another cause has narrowed part of the bile duct, restricting the flow of bile. Because it works through a tract that is already in place, it does not require a new incision.
