Initial Treatment Of An Anal Fissure

Minnesota rates for HCPCS 46940

Treatment of an anal fissure, a small tear in the lining of the anus that causes pain and sometimes bleeding, especially with bowel movements, by scraping away the unhealthy tissue or cauterizing it, along with gentle stretching of the surrounding muscle to relieve spasm. This is the first time this particular treatment is performed for a given fissure. It is generally used when simpler measures such as stool softeners or topical medication have not worked.
