An operation in a baby born with the anal opening missing from its normal place, where the bowel ends low down and drains through a narrow channel just in front of where the anus should be. The surgeon opens that narrow channel out to a normal size so stool can pass freely. It is done in early infancy through the skin around the anus, without opening the abdomen.
