Surgery for an anal fistula, a small abnormal tunnel running from inside the anal canal out to the skin, where the tunnel passes between the two rings of muscle that control the bowel. The surgeon opens or removes the tunnel so it heals from the inside out, working carefully around the muscle that maintains continence. It is usually done under anesthesia as a day case.
