Threads a soft loop of suture or silicone through an abnormal tunnel running between the anal canal and the skin, and leaves it in place. Keeping the tunnel open lets infection drain away instead of building into an abscess, and the loop can later be tightened or used to guide a further repair. It is a short procedure done under anesthesia.
