A flexible scope is passed through the anus into the lower large bowel, and a flat or broad-based growth is lifted away from the wall and removed in a piece of the lining. Fluid is usually injected underneath first to raise the growth off the deeper layers so it can be taken cleanly. The tissue removed is sent to a laboratory.
