A flexible scope is passed through the anus into the lower part of the large bowel, and one or more growths or abnormal areas found there are destroyed in place using heat or a similar energy rather than being cut out. Stretching a narrowed segment or passing a guide wire, if needed to reach the target, is part of the service. It is usually done with light sedation as an outpatient.
