Rigid Scope Untwisting Of The Sigmoid Colon

This service uses a rigid viewing instrument inserted through the rectum to relieve a twisted section of the lower colon, a condition called volvulus, without open surgery. The scope allows the surgeon to see the twisted bowel and carefully untwist and decompress it, releasing trapped gas and stool. This can resolve the blockage and, in some cases, avoid the need for emergency surgery.
