An exam of the lower part of the colon and rectum using a rigid scope, during which a growth or abnormal tissue that cannot be simply removed with grasping tools or a wire loop is instead destroyed in place using heat or another ablation method. It combines diagnostic viewing of the lower bowel with treatment of the lesion at the same visit. It differs from simpler versions of the exam that only remove tissue for a biopsy or take out a polyp that can be captured and removed intact.
