Rectal Pull-Through Removal Surgery

This operation removes the rectum, and often part of the lower colon, then reconnects the remaining bowel down near the anus so a person can continue to pass stool normally without a permanent ostomy bag. It is used to treat congenital megacolon (Hirschsprung's disease), a condition present from birth in which part of the colon lacks the nerve cells needed to function normally, requiring the affected segment to be removed. This surgery is typically performed in infants or young children.
