Drainage of a Deep Abscess Near the Rectum

Vermont rates for HCPCS 45020

Opens and drains a pocket of pus lying deep above or behind the rectum, higher up than the muscular floor of the pelvis. The surgeon cuts down to the collection, lets the pus out, washes the cavity, and often leaves a drain so it keeps emptying. An abscess in this position causes severe pain and can spread dangerously if left alone.
