Repair of a Tear in the Mesentery

Washington rates for HCPCS 44850

Stitches closed a tear or gap in the mesentery, the fan-shaped sheet of tissue that anchors the intestine to the back of the abdomen and carries its blood vessels. Closing the gap stops bleeding and prevents a loop of bowel slipping through and becoming trapped. It is usually done during an operation for injury or alongside other bowel surgery.
