Closing an Intestine-to-Skin Fistula

Vermont rates for HCPCS 44640

Closes an abnormal channel that has formed between the intestine and the skin surface, through which bowel contents leak onto the abdomen. The surgeon opens the abdomen, frees the involved bowel, removes or repairs the tract, and closes the intestine so its contents stay inside. The abdominal wall is then repaired.
