Stoma Bowel Scope With Ultrasound-Guided Sampling

Washington rates for HCPCS 44407

A flexible scope is passed into the bowel through a stoma, an opening made in the abdominal wall, and an ultrasound probe at its tip looks through the bowel wall at the tissue and lymph nodes just beyond it. Guided by that live ultrasound picture, a fine needle is passed through the scope to draw tissue or fluid samples from within the wall or from structures on the far side of it. The samples are sent to a laboratory to show what the abnormality is and how far it extends.
