Bowel Scope Through A Stoma With Biopsy

Vermont rates for HCPCS 44389

An examination of the large bowel through a stoma — an opening in the abdominal wall where the bowel has been brought to the surface — during which one or more small tissue samples are taken. The scope is passed through the stoma and tiny forceps pinch off pieces of the lining from areas that look inflamed or abnormal. The laboratory examination of the samples is charged separately.
