Scope Through an Ostomy With Biopsy

Vermont rates for HCPCS 44382

A scope is passed through an ileostomy opening on the abdominal wall into the small intestine, and one or more small tissue samples are taken from the lining. The samples go to a laboratory to look for inflammation, infection or other disease. It is usually done with light sedation or none at all, since the opening allows direct access.
