Scope Exam Deep Into the Small Intestine

Vermont rates for HCPCS 44360

A long flexible scope is passed through the mouth and stomach and pushed well past the usual reach of an upper scope, into the small intestine beyond the duodenum. The lining is inspected for bleeding, ulcers, inflammation or growths, and cells may be collected by brushing or washing. It is done with sedation and takes longer than a standard upper scope because of the distance covered.
