Removes the entire colon together with the rectum, and brings the end of the small intestine out through the abdominal wall as an ileostomy where waste drains into a pouch. It is used for severe ulcerative colitis, inherited polyp conditions, or extensive cancer. With the rectum removed as well, the ileostomy is permanent.
