Colon Removal With Rectal Join and Colostomy

Vermont rates for HCPCS 44146

Removes a portion of the colon and joins the remaining bowel to the rectum low in the pelvis, then brings bowel out to the skin as a colostomy so stool is diverted while that join heals. Diversion protects a connection made deep in the pelvis, where healing is slower and leaks are more serious. The colostomy can usually be closed later.
