Removes the intestine from a deceased organ donor through an open abdominal operation and preserves it for transplant into a recipient. The blood vessels supplying the bowel are carefully kept intact so they can be reconnected in the person receiving it. The organ is flushed with cold preservation fluid and kept chilled until it is transplanted.
