Repair Of A Perforated Stomach Or Ulcer

Vermont rates for HCPCS 43840

Closes a hole in the wall of the stomach or the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine, caused by an ulcer or an injury that has eaten or torn through it. The opening is stitched shut, often reinforced with a patch of nearby tissue, and the abdomen is washed out. It is emergency surgery, because leaking contents cause severe infection.
