Bile or Pancreatic Duct Stent Exchange

Washington, DC rates for HCPCS 43276

During an examination in which a scope is passed through the mouth to where the bile and pancreatic ducts drain into the intestine, an existing stent — a small tube holding the duct open — is taken out and a new one is put in its place. The duct may be stretched open before and after, with a guide wire used to hold the path. It is done when a stent has clogged, slipped, or simply reached the end of its useful life.
