Placing a Stent in the Bile or Pancreas Duct

Hawaii rates for HCPCS 43274

A flexible scope is passed through the mouth to where the bile and pancreas ducts drain into the small intestine, and a small tube called a stent is set inside a narrowed or blocked duct to hold it open. Dye and X-ray pictures guide the placement, and the duct opening may be widened first so the stent can pass. It relieves the jaundice, itching and pain a blockage causes.
