Diagnostic Bile Duct Endoscopy (ERCP)

An examination of the bile and pancreatic ducts using a flexible scope passed through the mouth and stomach to the point where those ducts drain into the small intestine. Dye is injected into the ducts and X-ray pictures are taken to look for stones, narrowings or blockages, and cells can be collected by brushing or rinsing the duct lining. Sedation or anesthesia is used, and treatment carried out through the scope is charged separately.
